Dr. Michael Pistor, the founding father of Mesotherapy, referred to the treatment as "Surgical Medicine," meaning medications are injected directly into the skin at the site of the pathology or problem area(s). To treat cellulite, medications are injected into the skin and the fat. During a cellulite treatment of the legs, medications are injected from the buttocks to the knees, including the front, back and sides of the thighs.
Mesotherapy introduces microscopic quantities of homeopathic medications, traditional pharmaceuticals, vitamins, mineral and amino acids into the skin to treat a variety of conditions. All medications are selected for the specific condition being treated. For example, the emphysema medication Aminophyilline is used to treat cellulite because it's been proven to break down fat, as has Isoproternol. Both medications work to achieve the same purpose in different ways, which is why the medications are often combined.
The advantages of injecting medication into the skin/fat include the elimination of side effects and contra-indications. Intolerance to a medication is often triggered by factors such as dose and the body's ability to break down and excrete the product. In many cases, formerly intolerant patients can tolerate a medication in Mesotherapeutic form.
Once the medication is delivered, the body is stimulated to heal itself. And because the target areas are directly reached, smaller amounts of medication are needed and the effects of Mesotherapy are instantaneous. Micro-injections are relatively painless, and the potential side effects limited to:
- Burning that can last 15-20 minutes.
- Minor swelling that can last 1-5 days (this can vary with some patients).
- Minor soreness that can last several days.
- Minor skin discoloration, which resolves on its own, or can be treated with chemical peels to remove it quickly.
- A slight risk of infection (which may occur whenever an injection is administered).
Prior to a Mesotherapy session, we identifie and maps the area to be treated. Once the area is mapped, the site is cleansed with alcohol, and the patient is placed on the treatment table before micro-injections are given.
What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a medical specialty that involves injecting microscopic quantities of natural extracts, homeopathic agents, pharmaceuticals and vitamins into the skin. It can be used to eliminate cellulite, promote weight loss, treat aging skin and redundant (sagging) skin, and rejuvenate the hands and neck.
What are the benefits of Mesotherapy over surgical techniques such as liposuction?
Liposuction does not treat cellulite. In fact, liposuction often causes existing cellulite to appear more prominent. Mesotherapy treats cellulite directly, promoting smoother skin and reducing fat in selected areas. Fat deposits are flushed from the body, and do not reappear in other areas, which often occurs after liposuction. Mesotherapy does not require hospitalization, general anesthesia or downtime.
Which cosmetic conditions can Mesotherapy treat?
Although Mesotherapy is used to treat a broad spectrum of injuries, illnesses and medical conditions, it is also employed to treat cosmetic conditions, including acne, cellulite, stretch marks, scars and wrinkles. It can also be used to reduce and contour fat.
How does Mesotherapy reduce or eliminate cellulite and fat?
Mesotherapy treats three factors involved in cellulite formation. We create a specific formula to reduce the fat in your cellulite, improve impaired circulation and break down damaged connective tissue - thereby smoothing the skin's surface. Mesotherapy can treat cellulite located anywhere on the body.
What are Mesotherapy's anti-aging and skin rejuvenation uses?
Subdermal vitamin injections rejuvenate the cells, making them more active, and thereby stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. You can begin anti-aging treatments in your mid twenties to prevent wrinkles from forming. Treatments for the face, neck, arms and hands are recommended several times each year.
How does Mesotherapy promote weight loss and spot reduction?
Our customized formula prevents cells from storing fat, and helps break down existing fat cells. Spot reduction targets double chins, love handles and any other areas displaying fat pockets.
What can I expect during my consultation and follow-up appointments?
Your first visit at our Spa will be a Mesotherapy consultation. After filling out a series of forms, we will review your medical history and give you an in depth explanation as to what Mesotherapy is. We will address any of your concerns.
Following this, you will have your photos taken (for medical records only) which is one step taken towards charting your Mesotherapy progress (periodically you will take follow-up pictures to facilitate this).
You will also receive two small injections used for allergy testing.
In most cases, patients are not treated at the time of the Mesotherapy consultation in order to allow time to see if there are any allergic reactions to the two injections. The patient is required to call 24 hours later to report if s/he has had any negative reaction. These results will get recorded in the patient’s Mesotherapy chart.
You may schedule a Mesotherapy appointment for treatment one day later at the time of your consult allowing for the 24 hour period need for allergy testing.
Patients typically sign up for advance Mesotherapy appointments in order to best accommodate their schedule. Most come once a week for Mesotherapy but on occasion a treatment may be skipped--this will not affect your progress.
You will be offered the choice to purchase a topical numbing cream which you can apply 45 minutes prior to your Mesotherapy appointments. We suggest trying the first Mesotherapy treatment without the cream; many can tolerate the treatment without it.
You will leave your consultation with a list of instructions (do's and don'ts) for Mesotherapy.
Payment for your Mesotherapy consult and sessions is due at the time of treatment. We do not require advance payment.
$300/per treatment and up (depending on the area we cover)
